French as a Second Language

CANA offers part-time French courses (in collaboration with the Ministry of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion, MIDI), French conversation classes, and we can refer you to other French courses offered by school boards and community organizations.

CANA offers part-time French courses, during the day and in the evening, for 9 to 12 class hours  per week. These classes are offered through the Linguistic Integration Program of the Ministry of Immigration, Diversity and Inclusion (MIDI).Teaching is delivered by MIDI instructors  and covers curriculum related to the daily situations of newcomers in their new environment.

These courses are free of charge. As well, CANA offers a nursery service (with a limited number of spots) for parents who do not have access to drop-in daycare services. Students have access to all CANA activities, including individual meetings with CANA staff members.

CANA also gives referrals to French courses offered by local centres for adult education and other community organizations.

For more information on eligibility criteria and the levels offered and dates of the upcoming session, please contact us.

The goal of French conversation classes is to help participants reinforce their language learning, whether or not they have previously taken classes.

French conversation classes are meant for people who already have basic knowledge of the language and wish to practice their language skills in concrete situations reflecting everyday life experiences. They are facilitated by volunteers who have experience teaching or animating groups, and who are committed to the integration of those for whom French is a second language.
