Information and Orientation

Our information and orientation services are often the first step for newcomers to CANA. They are guided through the settlement process, whatever their immigration status or country of origin.

All the following services are free of charge.

  • (French only) Premières démarches d’installation – PDI: a 3 hours information session for newcomers. Prior registration with the MICC or CANA is compulsory.
  • Orientation and referrals to government and community resources, in the areas of health care, immigration, social services, education, work, housing and work/income.
  • Information sessions: Health care, housing, work, education, civil rights, immigration procedures and legislation.
  • Help filling out forms for citizenship, permanent residency, work and study permits, tax benefits, as well as federal and provincial family allowances.
  • Commissioner of Oaths services:  document certification, affidavits, travel authorizations, letters of invitation, declarations of common-law status, certificates of lodging.
  • Other services:  Every March, an income-tax clinic is held for our members, by appointment only and free of charge. Back-to-school baskets are provided at the end of August every year; registration is compulsory in May.
